Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be newly sober to work with you?
No. I work with people at all stages of recovery — from early sobriety to decades in. Many of my clients appear high-functioning on the outside while privately struggling with stress, cravings, or burnout.
I’m a professional with a lot to lose. Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Privacy is non-negotiable. Everything we discuss is protected by law and ethics. I do not report to employers, boards, or licensing bodies unless legally mandated for safety reasons.
Do I have to identify as an “addict” to work with you?
Not at all. Some people come to me after a crisis, others because the way they’ve been coping is no longer working. You define your relationship to recovery — not a label.
What if I’m still using or not fully committed to quitting?
You don’t need to have it all figured out to start. We’ll explore what’s happening without judgment and work toward clarity, stability, and accountability at a pace that makes sense.
Do you work with professionals facing burnout or stress who also use substances to cope?
Yes. Many clients reach out because high pressure, burnout, or identity loss has led to unwanted reliance on alcohol, drugs, or compulsive behaviors.
Will you push me into groups, 12-step programs, or spirituality?
No. I don’t impose a framework. If group, peer support, or spiritual practices are meaningful to you, we can integrate them — but therapy is tailored to your goals.
Can therapy help if my biggest problem is shame, not cravings?
Absolutely. Shame, secrecy, and self-judgment are often more damaging than the behavior itself. I help you address the inner drivers — not just the symptoms.
Do you take insurance?
Yes. I accept insurance for clients in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Private pay options are also available.
Do I have to take time off work to do therapy?
No — sessions are online and scheduled around your availability. Many clients meet early mornings, evenings, or during lunch breaks.
What if I’ve been in therapy before and it didn’t help?
That’s common. Many of my clients have tried surface-level or generic therapy that didn’t address the deeper issues. We’ll work differently — with honesty, respect, and real goals.
How do I get started?
You can reach out through my contact form, email, or phone. We’ll set up a consultation to see if it’s the right fit, no pressure.
